The 3GSM World Congress is etched in the diaries of mobile industry leaders across the world as the event at which to debate the future of wireless services and technology. In a mixture of private meetings and public conference sessions, chief executives of the world's biggest mobile operators and vendors gather to lay out their agendas for the year ahead and exchange ideas about how best to serve the world's 2.5 billion mobile phone users.

The agenda for the 2007 event is still being finalized, but will also feature the leading figures in the mobile industry. As well as tackling high-level strategic issues, the conference delves more deeply into specific topics through a Technology Symposium, Mobile Entertainment Summit and other themed sessions.
Each year, hundreds of new products make their global debut at the Congress exhibition, which showcases more than 1,300 companies from all segments of the industry. In 2007, the exhibition will, for the first time, host a mobile entertainment zone displaying an array of content developed especially for mobile phone users.
Most of the leading operators and vendors hold press conferences at the Congress, highlighting new services, initiatives and products on show in the exhibition. The high-calibre of attendees means the Congress is also an ideal place for journalists to set-up one-to-one interviews with industry executives.
The GSM Association's Global Mobile Awards night, held at Barcelona's majestic National Palace during the Congress, pinpoints the best services and products launched by the industry in the previous 12 months. For a sense of how the mobile industry will evolve in future, attend the Congress's Innovation Forum, which gives small or young companies a chance to present avant-garde ideas, concepts, products and services to mobile operators' R&D chiefs and venture capital firms.
