MyxerTones™ today announced that it has partnered with Starbucks New England and the NEMO Music Festival to mobilize the music of the bands competing in the Starbucks Music Makers Competition. The 49 semi-finalist bands are using MyxerTones to create free ringtones to promote their music as the online voting begins for the competition. The participating artists are also being featured on the MyxerTones website, gaining unprecedented exposure to the more than 2 million users who are downloading more than 6 million pieces of mobile content from MyxerTones each month.
Starbucks New England and the NEMO Music Festival are bringing back the days when live music was equally as popular at a coffeehouse as sipping a steaming cup of brew. The Starbucks Music Makers Competition offers musicians the opportunity to showcase their talent in any musical genre. Regional competitions will be held in select Starbucks stores throughout New England in August and September, with between 5-7 artists each performing 3 songs. One artist from each event, plus wildcards, will be invited to advance on to the Finals on October 11th in Boston. Four local music industry professionals will be invited to judge at each in-store competition. These votes will be tallied and added to a 5th public vote, determined through online voting presented by Goombah.
The Myxer platform is "mobilizing" the Starbucks Music Makers Competition bands' ringtones. With Myxer, creating and distributing mobile content is simple, quick, and easy. Technical challenges are eliminated and contractual and other administrative barriers are removed. Anyone can use Myxer to create customized mobile ringtones, images, wallpaper, and other types of mobile content. Though its use is applicable to anyone, the Myxer platform is particularly useful to independent bands who want to create and promote their own mobile content to their fans, quickly and without the need for complex technical requirements or big marketing budgets Moreover, once the mobile content is created, the growing MyxerTones community of more than 2 million users provides a built-in prospective audience of mobile content consumers. Ringtones created by the semi finalist bands can be found at www.starbucksmusicmakerscompetition.com and www.myxertones.com.
"Myxer was a terrific find for the competition," said Kristin Bredimus, director of the NEMO Music Festival and the Starbucks Music Makers Competition. "The musicians are able to create cool mobile content for their existing fans while simultaneously offering that mobile content to an entire new group of potential new fans resident in the MyxerTones community. Though our competition is competitive, the overall goal is to promote great, live, independent music that can be enjoyed in a traditional coffee-house setting, and Myxer clearly helps us achieve that goal."
"Starbucks is world-class brand, and their active and continuing role in the promotion of independent bands is having a major positive impact on the indie music scene," said Myk Willis, founder and CTO of MyxerTones. "We are very pleased to work with them and the NEMO Music Festival to share their goal and to provide even more benefits to the independent musicians in the competition. Independent musicians and their fans are already among our most loyal users, and we expect that these competitors will create even more great mobile content and become important new members of our MyxerTone community."
Starbucks hosts a dedicated website where fans can listen to ringtones created by competitors at www.starbucksmusicmakerscompetition.com. The winner of the competition will receive, among other things, hotel and airfare to the Kauai Music Festival sponsored by BMI. Semi-finalists will win prizes that include space on Radio Free Goombah Music Player.
